Syft Technologies Scores Double Win With Sale To Interscience
- Benelux-based firm is new dealer for Voice100 in Europe
Syft Technologies has reached an agreement with Interscience for the distribution of the Christchurch company’s Voice100 machines in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg (commonly known as Benelux).
As a part of their three-year contract, Interscience has purchased one Voice100, which will be delivered in January 2006 and used for demonstrations and research.
The sale is a result of Syft Technologies’ focus on the European market, something CEO Geoff Peck had underscored during the AGM in September. “This contract is exactly what we hoped for when we decided to direct our efforts towards Europe,” he said. “Interscience is extremely well established and we are proud to join their roster of manufacturers.”
One of Interscience’s focus areas for the Voice100 will be environmental applications such as real-time, whole air scanning and monitoring. The machine’s ability to detect trace amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is of particular importance in Europe, where pollution regulations are among the strictest in the world. Interscience will be working closely with Syft to develop new applications and methods in that arena.
“The extensive environmental regulations in Europe have created the need for the Voice100, while the willingness of the European scientific community to embrace new technology helped open the door for us,” said Peck.
Founded in 1975 in Breda, the Netherlands, Interscience is considered one of the more innovative firms in a region known for its forward-thinking approach to new technology. It began operations with a focus on sales of laboratory equipment, quickly concentrating its efforts in the arena of gas chromatography.
Over the years the company has expanded to offer service & support, training, and expert consultation. Their work has led them to become a market leader in spectrometry (part of the science behind the Voice100), with over 350 installed systems, a solidly established customer base, and strong links with research and quality control laboratories. Interscience operates out of two centres, Breda in the Netherlands and Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.
“From our first contact with Syft Technologies at Pittcon 2005, we have believed that the Voice100 is an innovative product that can broaden our portfolio,” said Marcel van den Bosch, General Manager of Interscience. “On top of that we feel that Syft is a company quite like ourselves: committed to their products and focussed on success through long-term relationships.”
Interscience will be working closely with Syft’s UK office and Andrew Linton, the company’s European representative.
About Syft Technologies
Syft Technologies is a private enterprise formed out of Canterbury University, New Zealand in 2002 to commercialise SIFT-MS technology (Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry) – a scientific breakthrough previously confined to specialist research labs for identification of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
The company successfully honed the technique into an ingenious device called the Voice100 that can instantly and accurately identify trace level VOCs to a few parts per billion. For more information visit www.syft.com.

Editors Please Note:
Syft Technologies wishes that the Voice100 instrument is not referred to as either a ‘sniffer’ or ‘sniffer technology’ as this terminology is misleading and incorrect. However, we also understand that many readers may have difficulty in understanding our technology, so if necessary we prefer that you use the words ‘super nose’ to describe our Voice100 instrument. For example: “Syft Technologies’ super nose, called the Voice100, can analyse air at the push of a button to detect tiny amounts of compounds down to single digit parts per billion.”
