Symantec Gateway Security 400 Series Appliances Earn
Common Criteria Eal2 Certification
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that Symantec Gateway Security
400 Series (Models 420, 440 and 460) has been awarded Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2) certification
for its integrated firewall. This prestigious certification assures customers that Symantec Gateway Security 400 Series
appliances have gone through a long and rigorous testing process and conform to standards sanctioned by the
International Standards Organisation. Common Criteria is an important worldwide evaluation standard for security
products as its certifications are recognised in 20 countries around the world
Symantec Gateway Security 400 Series appliances integrate stateful inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion
detection, antivirus policy enforcement, IPsec VPN and content filtering technologies into a single, easy-to-use
solution. The appliances also provide integrated networking functions including a multi-port LAN switch, router and
internet link protection with automatic detection and failover capabilities. In addition, customers are offered
protection for wireless LAN networks with an access point option that extends security protection to clients, while
allowing seamless roaming within remote or branch office sites.

The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CCITSE) is a set of evaluation criteria agreed to by
the United States’ National Security Agency/National Institute of Standards and Technologies and equivalent bodies in 20
other countries. It was designed to resolve the technical and conceptual differences among existing standards for the
evaluation of security systems and products. Certification to the Common Criteria requires in-depth analysis of product
design and development methodology, backed by extensive testing. Common Criteria is currently recognised by the
following countries: New Zealand, United States, Canada, Australia, Austria, The Czech Republic, France, Germany,
Finland, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United
Kingdom.
