Stony Batter Historic Reserve re-opened
Stony Batter Historic Reserve on Waiheke Island is open to the public again after being closed for a week due to the foot-and-mouth alert.
The reserve at the eastern end of Waiheke was closed as a precaution to avoid unnecessary public traffic through farmland in the area.
With restrictions on the movement of animals and risk goods from the island now lifted and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry operation on Waiheke scaled back, Stony Batter has been re-opened to the public.
Department of Conservation Auckland Area Manager Beau Fraser thanked the public for their cooperation in not visiting the reserve while it was closed.
