Wireless Innovation Conference Comes To Te Papa
Wellington, April 6th 2005 –
The New Zealand Wireless Forum’s first free bi-annual ‘Convergence’ exhibition and conference for 2005 will be held at Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington on Wednesday 27th April.
Convergence 05 is the largest free industry event in New Zealand of its type for users of IT and Wireless devices and applications.
The exhibition will feature 30 member organisations showcasing innovative wireless devices, products and services tailored for both business and home users.
“New Zealand is a hot house of wireless innovation. We have almost every flavour of wireless technology in operation here from trunked mobile radio to 3G. That’s what makes us unique as an industry and is why our members are starting to make waves internationally” says Steve Inglis, President of the New Zealand Wireless Forum. ”With the deployment of 3G networks many of our members are turning their research investments toward multimedia applications, many of which we could not have imagined even 5 years ago.”
Convergence 05 will be even bigger than previous events because of the continued support of Positively Wellington Business.
“This is one of the cornerstone events in the Wellington Region that can really show how vibrant our ICT industry is locally. We might like to show off our local innovation partners but we also learn a great deal from the conference speakers which further pushes our local businesses into action”, says Sharon MacNeill, ICT Sector Manager of Positively Wellington Business.
Steve Inglis adds “We are delighted to be back in Wellington with Convergence. This year we are the lead event in the national Innovation Festival so there will be ample opportunity for our members to demonstrate how New Zealand can be a leader in the world of Wireless communications.”
In the conference halls a wide range of leaders from the wireless industry will host interactive discussions on both the technical issues and business benefits of today’s wireless innovations. Speakers include Brian Barcello, Executive Director for International Wireless Networks from Lucent Technologies speaking on Government Applications. Murray Milner, Chief Technology Officer of Telecom New Zealand will also address the delegates on the future trends for wireless and fixed data convergence.
Other areas of interest include the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags across a wide range of industries. There will also be a panel discussion on how Wireless Broadband is emerging as a common broadband delivery option that include an array of fixed wireless and 3G mobile networks.
Convergence 05 at Te Papa Tongarewa is free for the public to attend and is being opened at 8:30am. Key sponsors for the Wellington event are Lucent Technologies and Qualcomm International with support from Positively Wellington Business.
