Secure Computing Launches New 2005 Line-up of Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance Models for the New Zealand Market
Range offers New Zealand small and medium businesses the most secure appliance widely available
AUCKLAND, April 12, 2005 – Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), the experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks, has announced the availability of their 2005 product line of Sidewinder G2® Security Appliances in New Zealand. The Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance is Secure Computing’s flagship product in the rapidly growing Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliance market.
This eight model high-performance line-up includes four value-enhanced models that are intended for the typically mid-sized and small businesses for New Zealand, and for branch offices or small distributed retail locations.
The new Sidewinder G2 models 110 C, 210 C, 410 C, and 510 C are priced starting from NZ$3,300 to NZ$19,500 and are able to deliver Application Defenses™ at high speeds.
IDC defines UTM security appliances as a combination of hardware, software, and networking technologies whose primary purpose is to perform multiple security functions, including a firewall, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and embedded anti-virus. The Sidewinder G2 recently jumped to #2 in UTM appliance factory-revenue share for Q3 2004 compared to Q2 2004, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker report. These consolidated UTM security devices are in particularly high demand in the Small/Medium Business (SMB) space due to their ability to dramatically lower total cost of ownership for a complete perimeter security solution.
“In 2004, there were 324,000 employer businesses with fewer than 500 employees, so this is a huge potential market for UTM appliances because an all-in-one appliance is a good fit for companies with limited IT resources,” said Jenna Griffin, Market Analyst for Security Solutions at IDC New Zealand. “Secure Computing is well-positioned for growth in the New Zealand market. We project the New Zealand security solutions market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.5% between 2004 and 2009, which will translate into a total market of $446 million.”
Unlike many competing platforms, every one of the eight new models in the 2005 line-up for Sidewinder G2, including the new entry-level Model 110 C, can deliver Unified Threat Management functionality because they have the power to run all UTM security filtering options simultaneously. Secure Computing's new line-up of appliances includes a set of Application Defenses™ options that come pre-installed on the appliance, and are managed under a single unified interface after the administrator completes a simple wizard-driven start-up process.
"We are excited about our 2005 line-up of high-performance security appliances and the changes we've made to strengthen our offering in the SMB market," said Eric Krieger, country manager for Australia. Through out New Zealand distributor, MPA New Zealand local businesses of all sizes can cost-effectively enjoy the world-class protection of the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance that is deployed at some of the most secure facilities in the world -- including the majority of the US Government's most security conscious agencies and departments and some of the largest financial institutions in the world."
The Sidewinder application-layer firewall module included in the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance is renowned as the world's most secure firewall. The Sidewinder has never been compromised after over a decade on the market and over 23,000 challenge site attacks. No emergency security patches have ever been released and no vulnerabilities have ever been reported by CERT or SecurityFocus.
