Southerlies Relaxing For Christmas
Cold southerlies arriving on Friday should relax briefly on Christmas Day, say MetService meteorologists. A sunny break
is being forecast for many places. Day-time highs should reach the high teens for coastal places from Wellington
southwards and around 20 degrees elsewhere, making this the warmest part of the week.
"This sunny interlude marks the passage across northern New Zealand of the first decent anticyclone across since
mid-November," said MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "By Boxing Day the weather will revert to showery
conditions in all western and southern areas. These showers may interfere with the first one day International Cricket
game against Sri Lanka at Eden Park in Auckland."
McDavitt wishes all holiday travellers a safe journey, and reminds those setting out early next week to check the latest
weather forecast. Another dose of unsettled weather is likely especially from Tuesday to Friday.
