NOD32 Virus Protection Extended To Web And Application Malware
AUCKLAND NZ - September 27, 2004
Eset, a leading global provider of next-generation virus protection, today announced the availability of the newest
version of its flagship product, NOD32, with extended state of the art heuristics detection capabilities to defend
against Web-based viruses and Trojans, macro viruses hiding in embedded Microsoft Office files, and the latest malware
including spyware, adware, and keystroke logging programs.
Without relying exclusively on signature updates, NOD32’s upgraded modules now provide comprehensive protection against
unknown viruses and malware in networks, the Internet, and common applications. HTTP scanning protects users from
Internet-borne threats such as Win32 worms and Trojans. These threats can spread while concealed within modified
executable files called runtime packers that are often difficult to identify by classical virus detection methods. NOD32
can recognize a virtually unlimited number of runtime packers, bringing detection to a new level. NOD32 also protects
against macro viruses and non-virus threats such as spyware, adware and keystroke logger programs. In addition, NOD32’s
specialized antivirus scanner works with Microsoft Office’s default scanner to provide an additional line of defense
against viruses hidden in Office files.
NOD32’s unique AdvancedHeuristics technology provides proactive protection with a small footprint and fast scanning
speed. It detects unknown malware during the critical time period between the emergence of a new threat and the release
of a virus signature update. In the newest version of NOD32, AdvancedHeuristics technology has been enhanced with
several new detection algorithms to identify the latest progeny of malware quickly and accurately, while maintaining the
highest possible virus detection rate.
While most current antivirus solutions are coded in high-level programming languages that consume valuable system
resources when executed. NOD32 uses elegant assembly code to provide first-rate virus protection with a negligible
impact on network and CPU performance.
“When we switched from a popular anti-virus product to NOD32, it was like a breath of fresh air. Everything was so fast
I thought that I must not have turned NOD32 on. Amazingly enough when I checked the remote administration log I could
see that it was blocking all the attacks made to our ports by Lovsan,” said Stephen Elek, LAN/Desktop Services, Trinity
Information Systems. “After rolling out NOD32 across our healthcare organization, overall network performance improved
by 10-20 percent, giving us increased bandwidth and productivity in addition to advanced protection from fast moving
threats.”
“NOD32’s focus on both high performance and complete detection for its antivirus gateway solution is ideal for
enterprises that need to match their security requirements with the reality of operational performance needs without
having to make a compromise,” said Pete Lindstrom, Research Director of Spire Security.
Enhanced features of NOD32 include:
Advanced Heuristics for Worm/Virus Detection—detects worms and viruses by their behavior without a need to update a
virus signature database, and provides the highest possible detection of Win32 worms, Trojans and viruses
HTTP Scanning—prevents infection from malware downloaded from the Internet
Enhanced Protection for Microsoft Office Application Suite—specialized scanner offers additional protection from macro
viruses that can spread when sharing Microsoft Office files
Protection from Non-Virus Threats— detects and removes spyware and keystroke logging programs that track users’
behaviors and create dangerous back doors into computer systems
About NOD32 Founded in 1992 and headquartered in San Diego, Calif., Eset is a global security software solution company
that provides next generation virus protection. Eset’s award-winning anti-virus software system, NOD32, assures maximum
network performance, advanced heuristic detection, and free worldwide support.
NOD32 provides enterprise customers with the highest ROI in the industry as a result of increased user compliance,
decreased downtime, and higher productivity. NOD32 holds more Virus Bulletin 100% Awards than any other anti-virus
product available, consistently detecting all known viruses “in the wild” without false positives. Eset’s work with
major corporations like Canon, Dell and Microsoft has propelled the company into Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 two
years running. Eset is a privately held company with offices in San Diego, US, London, UK, Prague, CZ, and Bratislava,
