A Taste of Winter
MetService meteorologists are mentioning the possibility of snow in the forecasts for Porters Pass from early Tuesday and for the Desert Road from Tuesday evening. Cold and showery conditions with thunderstorms and hail are forecast to cross the country bringing many a foretaste of winter.
"The cold air arriving today over Southland and Otago is expected to continue travelling northwards", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "Late on Tuesday and during Wednesday morning a new low pressure system may deepen off Hawke's Bay. This is likely to bring a spell of cold wind and rain to eastern areas of the North Island as the weather clears from the rest of the country".
MetService is expecting another dose of unsettled weather for the start of Easter. "The North Island forecast looks thundery for a time on Good Friday. People's travel plans should allow some extra time due to inclement weather".
