Borland® Announces New Senior Appointments in Asia Pacific
New Zealand, February 11, 2004 - Borland Singapore Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Borland Software Corporation, today
announced five new executive appointments. Chris Gray, Peter McAlpine, Michael King, Nick Jackson and Andrew Munro have
all accepted new positions on the Borland Asia Pacific management team. All previously held leadership positions on the
sales and management teams for Asia-Pacific. These changes address Borland's ever-evolving business requirements as it
continues to establish its leadership in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), a strategy designed to help companies
leverage software as a competitive advantage.
The new appointments are as follows:
Chris Gray Sales Director of ANZ and Country Manager of New Zealand
In this expanded role, Gray will assume the position of sales director for ANZ and continue as country manager for New
Zealand, where in less than one year he has made significant sales inroads into key government and finance verticals
with Borland's ALM offerings. In addition, his senior-level sales strategy experience and operational focus has helped
the ANZ sales teams with its expanded focus on ALM. Gray will continue to be based in New Zealand.
Previously, Gray was the New Zealand manager for McDonnell Douglas Information Systems. When it was acquired by CSC,
Gray oversaw the integration of the company into CSC, and was the NZ manager for CSC Healthcare, and later the National
Sales Manager for CSC New Zealand. Prior to CSC, Gray was Managing Director of Compusales and worked in the mainframe
and imaging sectors. Previously, he also spent a number of years in the consulting and professional services sector, and
was Deloitte Consulting's first business development manager in the Asia Pacific region.
Peter McAlpine Managing Director of ANZ Mr. McAlpine has contributed significantly to the ANZ region, since joining
Borland as the sales director for ANZ in March 2003. In his new position, Mr. McAlpine will be responsible for the
overall direction and continued growth in the ANZ region.
Mr. McAlpine joined Borland from PeopleSoft, where he was the Southern Region CRM Manager. Prior to PeopleSoft, Mr.
McAlpine spent three years at PictureTel where he initially held the position of Sales Director and later Managing
Director Asia Pacific. Prior to PictureTel, Peter held the positions of Southern Region Director and National Sales
Director for Novell Australia. Michael King, General Manager and Vice President of Sales for Borland Japan.
In this role based in Japan, Mr. King will assume overall responsibility for all sales operations in Japan. This move
signifies the importance that Borland attaches to its operations in Japan.
Prior to assuming this position, Mr. King held the position of Managing Director of the ASEAN Region. At the same time,
he has continued to remain involved in the business in Japan, where he previously served as acting managing director, by
providing strategic account guidance and helping to achieve large account wins. Previously, Mr. King was the director of
product lines sales at Borland responsible for supporting all operations throughout Asia. In that role, King helped
drive the success of the company's Java business.
Prior to joining Borland in August 2001, Mr. King spent 5 years at Sterling Commerce where he held several Asia Pacific
management positions, including director of marketing for Asia Pacific based in Singapore; general manager for Japan;
and director of channels for Asia Pacific and Latin America based in Sydney. Prior to that he was a top ranked account
representative for the Gartner Group analyst firm based in Connecticut.
Nick Jackson, Managing Director of the ASEAN Region. Mr. Jackson's new role as managing director of Borland's ASEAN
region is to shape the company's business strategy for the ASEAN region, and he will be responsible for continuing to
expand the ASEAN business through strong sales, product and marketing execution.
Previously, Mr. Jackson held several leadership roles in the Borland Asia Pacific team as director of marketing and most
recently as director of business development and product solutions, including management responsibility for strategic
alliances in Asia. Prior to joining Borland, Mr. Jackson held numerous sales, sales management and general management
roles. He has also held senior executive positions with 3 Com, Novell and also Modus Media and has extensive experience
in Asia-Pacific and the ASEAN region
Andrew Munro, Director of Business Development and Product Solutions. In this new role, Mr. Munro has joined the APAC
management team and will remain based in Australia. Mr. Munro will be responsible for the management of Borland's
strategic relationships in the Asia Pacific region as well as the growth of Borland's business through the development
of system integrator and reseller channel relationships. He will also lead the product solution management team. He will
be responsible for helping to ensure a close alignment of regional territory sales, ALM technology offerings, and
partners.
Prior to accepting this new role, Mr. Munro was the managing director of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), where his
responsibilities included executive management of the ANZ region's enterprise sales teams, channel management, customer
service, training and consulting services teams. Mr. Munro has a wealth of experience in the Information Technology
sector, and has employed a strategic approach to identifying, developing and maintaining a strong customer base for
Borland in ANZ.
Prior to joining Borland, Mr Munro spent 8 years with systems integrator Praxa in a range of sales and general
management roles, with his final position there being National General Manager-Sales & Marketing for Australia. Previously, he worked for Apple Computer and BHP.
