Intel Unveils New Linux Tool For Intel® Itanium® Processors
Intel Corporation has begun shipping a new version of the Intel VTuneTM Performance Analyzer 2.0 for the Linux operating
system, its first fully Linux-native performance analysis tool for the Intel® Itanium® processor family.
The Intel VTune Performance Analyzer identifies lines of code in an application that consume excessive amounts of
processor resources. Developers can use this analysis to quickly identify and remove potential performance bottlenecks.
A variety of software ranging from financial, engineering, scientific and multimedia applications can benefit from the
tool.
“We have been very pleased with the reception by the Linux community to the first version of the Intel VTune
Performance Analyzer for Linux,” said Jon Khazam, general manager of Intel’s Software Products Division. “In response to
customers’ requests, we have added native Linux support for the Itanium processor family and graphical viewers that
allow developers to tune their applications for higher levels of performance directly in a Linux environment.”
Intel also introduced version 2.0 of the Intel VTune Performance Analyzer Driver Kit. The kit adds open source drivers
for the Intel VTune Performance Analyzer, allowing developers to use the tool with unsupported Linux distributions and
customised kernels.
The new Intel VTune Performance Analyzer 2.0 for Linux offers more flexibility and convenience for Linux users through a
command line interface, Java support, a Getting Started guide and “flow of control” analysis previously only available
for Windows-based applications.
It also features a “Pack and Go” option wherein the results from the Linux server can be transferred back to a
Microsoft* Windows*-based system for Windows-based applications with remote support for Linux.
The Intel VTune Performance Analyzer 2.0 for Linux will be available for the suggested list price of $US699. Product
training is available through the Intel® Software College, which provides a diverse set of Web-based and instructor-led
courses aimed at helping software developers get the most from Intel tools and platform technologies. The tool is
available from Intel and resellers worldwide for download and on CD-ROMs. More information is available at
