Good Tail Winds For Rudolph
MetService meteorologists are forecasting windy weather during Christmas week, but the wind is likely to drop in time for barbeques on Christmas Day.
"We are expecting a front to cross New Zealand on Tuesday and Wednesday," commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt, "bringing a period of rain to western areas and dry windy weather further east. Temperatures are likely to rise to the mid- to high- twenties in Hawke's Bay and Canterbury. Northwest winds may well reach gale force again around central areas by Tuesday night. Rudolph and the team should have a good tailwind as they arrive with Santa over New Zealand on Christmas Eve."
Clearing conditions are forecast for Christmas Day, but a brief period of southwesterly wind may bring some showers to the eastern South Island in the morning, and showers may linger in some places north of Taupo.
More northwest winds are expected on Boxing Day and into the weekend, continuing the weather pattern of a windy start to our summer holidays.
