New Education licensing model set to deliver huge savings
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - 10 November 2003 - FileMaker announces today a simple, new and affordable K-12 school site licensing model called the 'Annual K-12 School Site Licence which is both cost effective and practical for any sized school in Australia and New Zealand - big or small!
FileMaker's new and innovative flat fee education site licensing model treats every school the same - from the largest city school to the smallest country school, and it further extends FileMaker's already well established commitment to K-12 Education. One former teacher says schools "can't imagine how they ever worked without" FileMaker, and now students, teachers and administrators can have this 'best in class' product regardless of the school's size or budget.
"In FileMaker's eyes, all schools are equal," reveals Steve McManus, General Manager FileMaker Asia Pacific. "More than 100 Australian and New Zealand K-12 schools are already benefiting from the enhanced productivity and efficiency that FileMaker's award-winning line of database software provides, but now schools of all sizes can welcome the savings and convenience that bigger institutions have enjoyed".
"At FileMaker we like to come up with the right answers for schools," continues Mr McManus. "Schools have told us they want three things in a software licence: the latest version including any upgrades released during the school year; a simple, easily understood, total school site licence which provides coverage for all the school's computers; and thirdly a licence that is affordable and will fit within the school's annual software budget."
This new annual school site model sees FileMaker now offering a choice of two innovative licences so that students, teachers and administrators from schools small or large can benefit equally from using this multi-award winning relational database. In addition to the new Annual School Site Licence which licenses all FileMaker software, including upgrades on all school computers, FileMaker's existing 'Classic', no minimum number licence for individual teachers and administrators, will continue to be available.
Teachers say FileMaker already makes a difference in schools
Murray Benn of Denbigh International, a former teacher himself and a leading FileMaker Pro Developer, says he has built FileMaker Pro based solutions for more than eighty schools throughout Australia and that every school has been stunned at the increased productivity and ease of use that FileMaker provides.
"Feedback from schools using Denbigh Administration, which is based on FileMaker Pro, is that they can't imagine how they ever worked without it," Murray explains. "Administrative jobs like managing family records, student administration, academic reporting, results, and recording sporting and extra-curricular achievements now take mere minutes to complete as opposed to the hours and sometimes days that it took before the FileMaker solution was put in place. This uncomplicated new Education licensing model from FileMaker will ensure that ALL schools can now achieve FileMaker's many benefits at an affordable price."
Glen Ryan, Computer Co-ordinator at Lake Macquarie High School says "Teachers, like any person in business, don't relish doing paperwork and as teachers we certainly prefer to spend our time doing what we do best which is teaching. Denbigh Reports, a FileMaker solution in place at our school has automated staff administrative workload and in turn reduced our paperwork load significantly."
So how does it work?
The new Annual K-12 School Site Licence is based on the school's total number of full-time teachers and administrators/support staff. For a flat fee per Teacher /School Administrator per annum, schools can license FileMaker Pro 6, FileMaker Pro 6 Unlimited, FileMaker Developer, FileMaker Server and FileMaker Mobile on all school computers! This includes upgrades for the next 12 months, and home installation of FileMaker Pro for the teacher's exclusive use. Students can also benefit from the Annual School Site Licence as there is an add-on option which allows students to install FileMaker Pro for their exclusive use on a per annum basis.
Hundreds of teachers are already benefiting from FileMaker based solutions which help them generate academic reports, school references, mark tests, record school carnival results and comparisons, perform class and student test result comparisons and more. all with just a few clicks of a button versus hours of manual recording.
"With FileMaker's Annual School Site Licence, Australian and New Zealand K-12 schools and their students can now have access to an industry standard relational database ensuring that projects like these needing a powerful database behind them are within reach," explains Mr McManus.
"FileMaker's Annual School Site Licence is flexible and easy to maintain, and the recurring annual renewal fee makes it simple and easy to manage because it eliminates the worry of counting computers, licences and auditing software installations," concludes Mr McManus. "Once a school has a FileMaker Annual School Site Licence in place, every computer will be licensed for FileMaker software on it, including upgrades!"
Eligibility - All schools that teach children from Kindergarten to Year 12 are eligible for this affordable flat fee licensing offer and there is a minimum entry level of 20 teachers and administrators.
