Google News Watch results
Google News is a robot-generated news page at the popular Google web search engine.
Just over a year ago www.newsknife.com launched Google News Watch to see whether Google News is smarter than human news editors.
Newsknife who rate the major news sites, monitored Google News regularly over the year to see how well Google's robot picks the top news stories chosen by leading US and UK news web sites.
The results are in. Google News chose the top two stories up to 63% of the time. By comparison Yahoo! News and CNN hovered around 77% throughout the period.
The concern that Google News might outsmart human editors hasn't been realized yet. Surprisingly, more than a year after launching, Google News still describes itself as a BETA (not final) version. There may be surprises yet to come.
