Fire and Ice on Wednesday
MetService meteorologists are forecasting that there could be some frosts in Bay of Plenty, Taupo, Hawke's Bay and
Marlborough on Wednesday morning. This should be followed by generally fine weather for the annual Guy Fawkes fireworks
in the evening. However there may be some gusty winds about and south of Cook Strait.
MetService Weather Ambassador Bob McDavitt says that the cold southwest winds arriving over the country early in the
week should die away on Tuesday night in readiness for the fireworks. "In some places the combination of cold calm air
and clear skies may result in an icy start to Wednesday. Anyone wishing to brace for possible frosts may check the
MetService frost forecast on the Farm Info phone line."
McDavitt says that fine weather for Guy Fawkes is expected to cover most of the North Island. "Canterbury and
Marlborough are also likely to have clear skies. Gusty northwest winds are forecast over much of the South Island and
around Wellington and Wairarapa, with a change to gusty westerlies spreading across Southland and Otago."
