concentration, rapid reaction skills and fast twitch reflexes. Nicholas achieved a third placing at World Cyber Games
last year.
At the World Cyber Games there will also be the inaugural “Intel Pentium 4 processor Extreme Edition Gaming
Championship” will be exclusive to WCG contestants – who will compete using high-performance PCs based on the upcoming
Intel® Pentium® 4 processor Extreme Edition 3.2 GHz supporting Hyper-Threading Technology1.
The Pentium 4 processor Extreme Edition 3.2 GHz supporting Hyper-Threading is a new processor Intel will introduce
later this year and will be available in PCs targeted at high-end gamers and computing power users.
WCG, the Olympics of PC gaming competitions, is being held October 12-18 at the Olympic Park in Seoul. All WCG
competitions in Seoul will be played on PCs powered by the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading
Technology. Intel also has sponsored, either through contractual agreements or funding travel to the games, more than 20
WCG players and/or teams from several countries and regions, including Chile, France, New Zealand, Sweden, Taiwan and
the United Kingdom.
“It’s exciting to see how Asia is leading the gaming community,” said Timothy Bailey, Intel Desktop and Mobile Marketing
Manager Asia Pacific. “This week’s winners will demonstrate that where the difference between life and death can be
milliseconds, the Pentium 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology gives them the edge they need. As
technologies continue to evolve, gamers at the forefront are demanding the power and better reliability that the Intel
processor-based PCs deliver.”
Asia Pacific Gaming Survey Results
Intel also unveiled today the results of an online survey focused on PC gamers and their demographics, gaming behaviour
and playing preferences. Key survey findings included:
- Demographics: About 97% of Asia Pacific gamers are men and about 54% of Asia Pacific gamers are students. Gamers from
China are older than gamers from the rest of Asia, with more than half of Chinese gamers surveyed are 21 to 25 years old
while about 59% of other Asia Pacific gamers are younger than 21.
- Playing preferences: About 83% of Asia Pacific gamers hone their skills on the PC at home. Cyber-cafes were more
popular in China and Malaysia than in other parts of Asia Pacific, while LAN parties were most popular in Australia,
with 57% of Australian gamers playing at LAN parties.
- Behavioural trends: Younger gamers are more likely to play at cyber-cafes. About one-third of Asia Pacific gamers who
are older than 26 play cyber-cafés, while about half of players 25 years old and younger play at cyber-cafes.
The survey was sponsored by Intel and was conducted under the direction of Synovate, a global research company.
Fieldwork was conducted June through August this year using a proprietary questionnaire that was available on WCG Web
sites in five countries and regions. Survey participants were people who said they play PC games on a regular basis. The
survey sample consisted of a total of 2,000 gamers.
