SQL Server Consultant Named Most Valuable Professional
A leading IT Consultant for SQL Services, Tony Bain, has been awarded the Most Valuable Professional (MVP) status by
Microsoft.
Tony was honoured with the prestigious accolade for his extensive knowledge of the SQL Server database environment and
his ability to answer technical questions for both the domestic and overseas market. He received one of only two SQL
Server MVP awards distributed in Australasia.
Tony Bain works closely with SQL Services– a Nelson based company that manages some of the country’s key corporate
databases – where he provides senior SQL Server consultancy services and BDM Global who provide Business Intelligence
Services.
SQL Services Chief Executive Colin Andersen is delighted Tony has been bestowed with such an honour.
“Tony is a world class expert in the SQL Server database and an integral part of our team. We are proud to have a person
of his calibre advising our clients.”
Tony Bain works on a wide range accounts for SQL Services including University of Auckland, NZ Dairy Foods, IAG (State)
and Christchurch City Council. He has written five SQL Server books, most recently the SQL Server 2000 procedure
handbook, typically of which over 95% are sold on the international market, and hosts a SQL Server question and answer
website on www.sqlserver.co.nz
Tony’s first job in the IT sector was system support at Southpower. Since then his CV has rapidly grown to include
experience in the design, development and administration of numerous SQL Server based systems. Tony has strong skills in
some of the least understood areas of database deployment including clustering, scalability planning and performance
optimisation.
He is a sought after speaker and will present at Tech Ed in NZ and Australia and SQL Pass – the world’s largest SQL
Server conference in Seattle in November.
“It is great to receive this independent recognition, especially after all the time and effort I have put into helping
build the SQL Server community. SQL Server is an enterprise class database platform and I can see strong growth as
Microsoft continues to develop this exceptional product,” says Tony Bain.
SQL Services specialises in the delivery of remote database administration services and consulting to companies using
Microsoft SQL Servers. Its core business is managing and minimising risks associated with data storage and providing
peace of mind that data is safe, secure and recoverable in the event of failure.
