WinZip(R) 9.0 Beta Now Available
MANSFIELD, Conn., May 12 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- The World's Most Popular Zip Utility Now with AES Encryption WinZip Computing, Inc., the maker of the world's most popular Zip utility for Windows, today released the first public beta version of WinZip 9.0, adding powerful encryption capabilities and other improvements. The advanced encryption features were simultaneously added to the new beta versions of the WinZip E-Mail Attachment Add-On for Outlook and the WinZip Command Line Support Add-On.
WinZip has been the data-compression utility of choice for thousands of organizations, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies, as well as millions of home users, for more than 12 years. Nearly 100 million copies have been downloaded from CNET's download.com web site alone. Combining power and flexibility with ease of use, WinZip appeals to the entire spectrum of data-compression users. First-time users are comfortable with the intuitive WinZip Wizard, while power users appreciate WinZip's seamless Windows Explorer interface and choose the award-winning WinZip Classic interface for their most sophisticated compression needs.
WinZip's new encryption capabilities, included at no extra charge, support 128- and 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption for state-of- the-art data security. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) selected AES as the standard for both governmental and private data encryption. WinZip's implementation of AES encryption is FIPS-197 certified by NIST.
Other enhancements include support for 64-bit extensions to the Zip file format, which eliminate all practical restrictions on Zip file capacity, and support for the "enhanced deflate" compression method, which compresses data better than ever.
The WinZip E-Mail Attachment Add-On for Outlook makes it easy to zip files that are being attached to Microsoft(R) Outlook e-mail messages. Zipping attachments reduces transmission time and disk storage for both the sender and recipient of the e-mail.
The WinZip Command Line Support Add-On is ideal for quick zipping and unzipping from the command line, and for automating repetitive tasks using batch (.BAT) files or scripts.
WinZip Computing is also publishing full specifications of its AES encryption support, allowing authors of other Zip file utilities to adopt the AES encryption format as implemented by WinZip Computing.
Individual copies of WinZip are US$29, and site license pricing is available. As with all WinZip upgrades for the last 12 years, all registered users of earlier English-language versions of WinZip will be able to download a FREE upgrade to WinZip 9.0. The official release of WinZip 9.0 is scheduled for later this year. Download links and ordering information can be found on the WinZip web site at www.winzip.com
