New Intel Software Library Speeds Math-Intensive Applications Across Intel-Based Systems
Intel® Math Kernel Library Optimised for Systems with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology
Intel Corporation announced today Intel® Math Kernel Library 6.0, a software library for developers creating numerically intensive simulation and analysis applications for Intel® Pentium® 4, Intel® Pentium® M, Intel® Xeon™ and Intel® Itanium® 2 processor-based systems, including systems with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. The new library will help developers decrease development effort and increase performance of applications across multiple Intel-based systems.
Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 is a collection of reusable linear algebra, Fast Fourier Transforms, and vector math and statistical functions with a common applications programming interface. A library is a set of pre-built programming code that a developer can “call” when writing applications. Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 enables developers to write code once and get performance benefits across a range of Intel-based systems. The library is designed for math-intensive applications such as financial modelling and geological survey analysis software.
“The Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 is a key element in Intel’s tools portfolio, delivering exceptional performance for engineering, scientific, and financial applications,” said Phillip Dows, Intel Marketing Manager – Australia and New Zealand. “Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 adds significant new capabilities such as multidimensional Fast Fourier Transforms for signal processing and high performance random number generator functions for various analysis applications.”
“Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 has replaced much of our proprietary code for Itanium®-based systems running Linux* because of the performance benefits it delivers. The library also reduces the time our developers spend on maintaining existing code and enables them to focus on adding new functionality to our virtual product development applications,” said Joe Griffin, Nastran* Linux porting specialist, MSC.Software.
In addition to the Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0, Intel offers a suite of software development products that includes Intel® C++ and Intel® Fortran compilers, the Intel® Thread Checker 1.0, Intel® VTune™ Performance Analyzers and the Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives software library. More information is available at www.intel.com/software/products.
Pricing and Availability Intel Math Kernel Library 6.0 is priced at $US199 for a single user commercial license and is available at www.intel.com/software/products as well as from resellers worldwide. The library supports the Pentium® 4, Pentium® M, Intel Xeon™ and Itanium 2 processor-based systems, as well as Microsoft* Windows* XP, Windows* 98, Windows* 2000, Windows* ME and versions of the Linux operating system.
Intel, the world’s largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.
