HP boosts Computers in the Community Project
A donation of more than 100 computers has given the Computers in the Community project an excellent start to the year.
Hewlett Packard Financial Services has gifted the 121 ex-lease computers to the Project, so that they can be recycled
and donated to Christchurch community groups in the next few months.
The Computers in the Community Project is a partnership between Molten Media Community Trust, the Christchurch City
Council and Canterbury Development Corporation. It helps non profit community groups gain access to the Internet and
information technology by donating or heavily discounting recycled computers with software.
"HP Financial Services is proud to be able to provide this support to Computers in the Community. It's great to see
these computers being utilised to encourage further development and innovation within the Christchurch community," said
Paul Claxton, HP Financial Services.
During the recycling process, Molten Media also provides work experience for young people from training institutions,
WINZ, Workbridge and ACC.
Liz Ellington, Christchurch City Council co-ordinator for Computers in the Community says, "getting support from
businesses like HP is vital to the success of the Project."
"Through Computers in the Community, businesses are able to integrate sustainable economic, social and environmental
values within their organisations." Dean Johnson, Molten Media Community Trust manager says.
Other businesses which have contributed to the Computers in the Community Project include Microsoft New Zealand, Telecom
New Zealand, Montgomery Watson, NZ Fire Service, Futronics, ECO Computer Services, Professional Business Systems, Visual
Tech, NZ Toner Cartridge and Lincoln University.
Businesses are encouraged to donate their redundant computers to the project as well as other computer equipment and
software. They can also help by buying one of the project's sponsorship packages.
