Election.com to manage dairy elections
Election.com, New Zealand's leading election management company, will be supporting the dairy industry's election
processes again in 2003. The election specialists have been selected to manage the Dairy InSight and Dexcel board
elections being held in May.
The elections are being run at the same time in an effort to pool resources and save dairy farmers' time and money.
"We will be providing independent, third party election services that will ensure a fair and secure nomination and
election process," says Returning Officer Warwick Lampp of election.com. "We also want to encourage quality nominations
for the positions on the boards and high voter participation."
Dairy InSight's Chief Executive, Peter Bodeker, is confident in election.com's ability to run a tight board election.
"We have selected election.com not only on the basis of their wide experience, but also their knowledge of the rural
sector and how farmers like to do things," says Peter Bodeker.
Election.com has previously managed voting for Meat New Zealand's AGM, and they were responsible for the management of
Dairy InSight's CLA ballot last May, 2002.
Both Board elections will use the Single Transferable Voting system.
"Using STV is a mark of the industry's innovative thinking and will provide dairy farmers with the widest choice of
candidates," says Warwick Lampp. "It is an electoral system designed to ensure that the candidates elected represent
accurately the opinions of the voters across the whole electorate."
"With this system farmers can be assured that they will be giving a clear mandate of who they want to lead these
industry organisations," says Steve McNae, Business and Finance Manager at Dexcel.
It is anticipated that with the elections being run concurrently but separately, farmers will enjoy the ease of having
one information source and point of contact for queries. Both dairy organisations hope to see high participation and
voter turnout in the elections.
Information on the elections is on both organisations websites at www.dairyinsight.co.nz and www.dexcel.co.nz and notices will be printed in daily newspapers and selected rural publications.
The period for nominations opens Friday, 21 February and closes 5.00pm, Friday 21 March. Anyone who requires a
nomination pack should call the Election Hotline on 0508 666 446 or email wlampp@election.com . All dairy farmers who supply milksolids to dairy companies are eligible to stand for either or both organisations.
There are five director positions to be appointed to the Dairy InSight Board, and four to the Dexcel Board.
Once nominations have been closed, all dairy farmers will receive voter packs in the post from 9 May 2003, with the
election period closing Friday 30 May, 2003.
