Innovative New Software To Monitor Gambling
Industry New Zealand is working with a South Island company that is developing software to remotely monitor and control
gaming machines around the country.
Industry New Zealand funding of $100,000 for the software is dependent on Gaming and Machine Distributors Ltd (GMD)
tendering successfully to Internal Affairs to develop the software to their specifications.
The software will remotely monitor the performance of gambling machines. It will enable more effective data collection
and analysis as well as reducing audit costs. The information captured will be transferred to databases for hotel-based
and national charities.
“A certain percentage of proceeds from gaming machine revenues is supposed to go towards local communities. This revenue
pays for a wide range of community activities and programmes, said Richard White, Senior Advisor, Business Development
at Industry New Zealand.
“Industry New Zealand has given provisional approval for the funding of the software as it will assist a New Zealand
company gain a software contract that would otherwise have likely gone to an offshore company. We are also aware that
once the product is successfully developed in New Zealand, countries such as Australia are interested in similar
products,“ said Mr White
The Government has identified a need for this type of software to provide assurance of the integrity of gaming machines,
said Mr White.
