Varsity.co.nz and The University of Auckland Portal begin content syndication trial
Students and staff visiting The University of Auckland’s web portal (The Portal) can now view a range of syndicated
content provided by student website www.varsity.co.nz. In a three-month trial, commencing today, Varsity.co.nz is
supplying approximately 25 items of content per month to The Portal.
While much of the content will also appear on www.varsity.co.nz, The Portal is also receiving a number of pieces of
custom content each month, including “Random Lecture Reviews” and staff profiles, which will be written in a more casual
style than the content normally associated with university websites.
Emma-Jane Hetherington, The Portal’s Functional Lead, says her team is excited by the trial. “We’re constantly aiming to
provide visitors to The Portal with additional quality content so it’s great to be working with Varsity.co.nz. As well
as their experience in generating and delivering content to the student population, they’ve shown a great understanding
of the unique requirements of working within a university environment.”
Varsity.co.nz’s Jeremy Hunt is thrilled to have secured the content syndication trial. “It’s something that’s been in
the business plan from day one,” he says, and adds, “It allows us to leverage our content and content-generation
capabilities and, of course, provides an additional revenue stream. We’re looking forward to working with The Portal
team over the next three months and, hopefully, well beyond that.”
