Surfs up! surf.nzxsports.com launches online
New website designed by surfers for surfers provides live webcam images and direct feed MetService weather forecasts
online. At www.surf.nzxsports.com surfers can see the swells and check out the weather reports online before heading to
the beach.
NZ's multi award winning sports sites www.snow.co.nz and www.nzxsports.com have been joined by a new sister site
designed especially for surf nuts at www.surf.nzxsports.com.
Surf.nzxsports.com is the newest addition to a growing family of sports sites created by IMS. "The site guarantees
surfers the best weather and surf conditions available anywhere in New Zealand," says David Watt, IMS Business
Development Manager. "With daily surf reports, weather information fed directly to the site from the MetService, and
updated webcam images from cameras mounted at some of the country's most popular beaches, surf.nzxsports.com enables
surfers to literally see where the best waves are before they get to the beach."
Amongst the many features and information packed on the site include a surfer notice board, world surf news and events
calendar, image and video gallery, surfing tips for learners, articles, virtual beach tours, NZ surfer profiles and surf
equipment reviews. For tourists and visiting surfers itching to try out new beaches, surf.nzxsports.com also offers a
growing and easy-to-find mapped resource of nearby surf clubs, surf shops as well as details on local travel and
accommodation.
Like snow.co.nz, its sister site, surf.nzxsports.com makes good use of modern technology. Fifteen robust web cameras are
currently sited at top beach locations to transmit regularly updated images via high-speed networks (where available).
This figure will increase as more webcams are installed from October this year. The site also offers videos and virtual
tours, which can be seen with QuickTime Player - a free programme easily downloadable from the web via a link that is
provided on the site.
