IT Industry Showcase Leading-Edge Technology
Tech Pacific announces Showcase 2002 and is billing it as the most innovative and dynamic IT trade show in the country. Leading global IT manufacturers such as Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Cisco and Epson have committed substantial resources to the exhibition, including demonstrations of the latest technologies as well as top product and management people. In total, around 45 leading vendors will attend, making Showcase the most well represented event within the IT industry.
“As the name suggests Showcase really has become the leading event for companies to showcase their latest developments and to meet customers face to face,” says Tech Pacific Managing Director Tony Butler. “This year the level of leading-edge technology on display is unprecedented. The industry has moved on at an amazing pace, even since last year, and Showcase is the opportunity to see it all first-hand and in many cases for the first time.”
A new feature of Showcase 2002 will be a stand Solutions for the digital home. For the first time in New Zealand, a working environment of a home will be built exhibiting the latest digital technologies for the home. It will feature six rooms demonstrating the latest technology available for entertainment, the home office and general domestic purposes. Vendors such as Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, JVC and LG will partner with communication organisations such as Telecom to display the latest offerings for the networked world.

The theme for this year’s Showcase is “solutions for the networked world”. A range of leading-edgetechnologies will be featured including digital home technology and Phillips new pixel plus television, the next step in television technology. Also voice over IP technology will be an area of great interest. To be used in the home office environment, Voice over IP can be used with productivity tools such as the notebook and allows call forwarding and transfer from the office to home. New wireless technologies such as Bluetooth will be demonstrated offering a short-range wireless connection solution for a variety of devices in the wireless home office.
At Showcase, Hewlett Packard will be launching its biggest ever range of inkjet printers. It will also be the first time New Zealanders see the new range of HP Compaq converged products. A number of new Tech Pacific vendors will be exhibiting at Showcase for the first time. These include Nokia Security, Minolta QMS, Efficient Networks, Wiseman and Crystal Decisions, a new business intelligence tool.
Technology and products aside, Showcase organisers believe the real benefit of attending Showcase is to meet the key industry people face to face. For instance, Microsoft is supporting Showcase wholeheartedly and has committed all country and channel managers to Showcase 2002.
“The calibre of people who will be available to talk to throughout Showcase is very high,’ says Tony Butler. “Often these people are very difficult to reach even in office hours. At Showcase, there will be a huge number of product, marketing and sales specialists on hand – it really is a unique opportunity to do business,” he adds.
Tech Pacific runs a Showcase website with detailed information on the event, including exhibitors, product highlights and technologies to watch. It can be found at tpshowcase.co.nz.
