Essay Prize To Mark Hortresearch’s 10th Anniversary
HortResearch hopes an essay competition may boost secondary school students’ interest in horticulture and get them thinking about a science career.
Students from Years 11 to 13 can enter and must think of their own topic. Entries close on 30 September.
Outgoing Chief Executive, Dr Ian Warrington, whose new role will be Professor of Horticulture at Massey University, said, “Horticulture is booming. Exports have reached $2bn a year and are growing. Students thinking about their careers need to know what an exciting industry it is.”
The competition is being organised by the institute’s Public Relations and Communications group, which has a strong interest in encouraging good language skills and the communication of science to a wide audience.
Details about the competition including prizes are on HortResearch’s website http://www.hortresearch.co.nz/careers/essay/
