Japan Looks To NZ Company For Aging Population Solution
Auckland, 11 December 2001 – Japan is eyeing up Doctor Global’s health services software as a possible solution for monitoring the medical requirements of its rapidly aging population.
Doctor Global was the only New Zealand company invited to Japan among 40 other nations to participate in the prestigious Export to Japan Study Programme (EJSP), organised by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).
Roger Gower, CEO of Doctor Global, took part in the programme held last week in Tokyo, meeting with several large Japanese companies in the IT and healthcare sectors.
“Japanese companies are interested in Doctor Global’s online personalised medical records which can help meet the healthcare needs of its aging population,” he says.
Gower says Doctor Global’s unique online solution can securely hold patient treatment records, allowing doctors to review and update patients’ clinical histories and monitor their progress.
“It can significantly reduce treatment costs, provide non-acute patients with more convenient treatment options and a better ability to control any conditions arising from aging.
“Japan has one of the world’s most rapidly aging populations, with the number of 65 year olds expected to double by 2050. As in New Zealand, the maturing population will place unprecedented demands on the country’s health system,” says Gower.
Doctor Global was selected because of its profile as one of New Zealand’s most innovative health software companies. It was also able to meet several of the criteria that the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) was looking for as part of the selection process. These included having software technology that was unavailable in Japan and which had direct applications to the Japanese healthcare market.
JETRO’s programme is now in its 33rd year, working in co-operation with Trade New Zealand to select and invite business people to visit Japan.
The recent programme included an update on the state of the Japanese IT, health and welfare and lifestyle markets.
