PC-cillin Antivirus Software Now Bundled with Popular Windows XP PCs
CUPERTINO, California, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire Asia-AsiaNet/ --
Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC) (TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in antivirus and Internet content security solutions, has licensed its PC-cillin 2000 antivirus software to Sony Electronics' Information Technologies Division for pre-installation on new Sony PCs, the company announced today. Sony will include the OEM version of Trend Micro's PC-cillin 2000 on its best-selling VAIO line of notebook and desktop PCs running Windows XP shipped in the United States and Canada.
"Trend Micro believes in the value of proactive, reliable, and easy-to-use security for all computer users," said Robert Keeler, executive vice president of consumer product business for Trend Micro. "We are pleased to be protecting VAIO PCs, clearly a superior product line designed inside and out to meet the needs of the mass consumer."
Trend Micro's PC-cillin 2000 is WHQL-certified by Microsoft for Windows XP and may be installed onto PCs by manufacturers seeking the valuable and highly marketable "Designed for Windows XP(R)" logo for their overall systems. Worldwide retail sales and OEM shipments of PC-cillin, which is known as Virus Buster in Japan, have surpassed 45 million copies to date. Keeler added that Trend Micro would continue to implement similar OEM deals as a strategic branding tool for Trend Micro.
PC-cillin 2000 blocks all known types of malicious code -- including viruses, Trojans, worms, hostile Java applets, Active X controls and Web scripts. It also features optional Web site blocking to prevent access to offensive Web content. A real-time email virus-scanning feature detects and cleans viruses from incoming messages and attachments before they have a chance to infect the desktop.
PC-cillin 2000 has been widely acclaimed as a valuable, effective antivirus solution for home and mobile PC users. It has been declared a "Must-Have" by PC World magazine, an "Editors' Choice" by Network Computing and PC Magazine, and was named to Windows Magazine / Winmag.com's prestigious "WinList " for two years running. It has been independently certified by ICSA Labs for its ability to detect 100% of "in-the-wild" viruses and was the first antivirus solution to be certified for Microsoft Windows 2000 by VeriTest.
