Ihug has today unveiled i-Spy - a new range of online services to guard against computer viruses, inappropriate websites
and unwanted email.
i-Spy offers Ihug customers a range of easy to use filtering services for as little as $2.50 per month. Key features of
the new online protection services include:
a.. An email filter to protect against computer viruses
b.. Junk and Spam filters to stop unwanted email
c.. A family Filter to control Internet access for youngsters
Ihug has launched i-Spy by joining forces with several industry specialists. Trend Micro, N2H2 Pty Ltd (formerly known
as iseek) and Mail Abuse System are all leaders in the design and performance of Internet filtering services.
Ihug spokesperson Karli Fountain says the explosive growth of computer viruses and junk email has prompted the move to
offer customers affordable online protection. "Around the world, the number of computer virus victims becoming infected
via email is growing rapidly," she says.
"At Ihug, we receive more than 30 calls every day from people who have either suffered a virus attack, or who want more
information of how to protect themselves.
Ms Fountain says about 90 per cent of virus attacks now arrive via email.
"Ihug has responded by developing affordable online protection for customers. Our main aim was to come up with a range
of services that are convenient, and easy to set up and use."
New Zealand First
Ihug is the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) in New Zealand to offer virus protection which is ISP-enabled (i.e.
operating from the company's own servers). Ms Fountain says because the services are ISP-enabled, customers won't have
to download software or purchase any expensive software in advance.
