Pdom CEO Says .co.nz Domains Set To Double In 12 Months
Wellington based global domain name registration company Pdom.com predicts huge growth in New Zealand’s domain name extensions (.co.nz) as people’s desire for their own slice of personalised cyberspace continues to grow globally.
Announcing the company’s move to become an accredited provider of.co.nz domain name extensions, Pdom’s Chief Executive Robert Wiles says people from around the world will look to New Zealand to register their preferred personal domain names (e.g. www.MandySmith.com) as virtually all the world’s common first names and surnames are already registered as .coms, .nets and .orgs.
“Global growth in personal domain name registration means people are beginning to migrate from the global ‘dot coms’ when their preferred name is no longer available to other attractive country extensions to secure the name they want,” said Mr Wiles.
“For example there are over 50,000 Mandys and 3 million Smiths in the world so www.MandySmith.com is long gone, but www.MandySmith.co.nz is still available. “
Mr Wiles says although companies prefer a domain name from their own country, individuals do not necessarily show the same loyalty.
“The internet has no boundaries. A person can live in New York, have a net identity based in New Zealand and access their email and domain from anywhere in the world. New Zealand is a more attractive option than many of the other country extensions which remain unattractive as they are either too expensive or restrict their domain space solely to companies and organisations.”
Pdom charges the lowest of any Registrar in New Zealand making .nz extensions affordable for individuals, families and businesses. Registration costs US$14 per year (NZ$34) with an additional one-off Name Holder charge levied by Domainz of US$14.
At present, .nz Registrars charge annual renewal fees ranging from $44.95 to $250.00. But with the arrival of Pdom charging only US$14 ($34.00), Wiles predicts that Pdom.com will become the largest registrar of .co.nz domains within a year.
"Given how easy we make it to transfer a .nz domain to Pdom.com we expect a large number of .nz domain owners will take advantage of the significant savings we offer and transfer their domains to us.”
Wiles predicts that over the next 12 months .co.nz registrations will double and that this growth will be driven by people from around the world seeking to secure their virtual home in New Zealand cyberspace through Pdom.com.
“Currently around 100,000 domain names have been registered as one of the ten .nz extensions available in New Zealand.
“Compare this to 29 million domain names registered worldwide as .coms, .nets and .orgs and the .nz space is ripe for growth as people realise they can still register their ideal net name in New Zealand, “ Wiles said.
www.pdom.com is a global domain name registration and trading company focussing on the new trend towards people securing and establishing their own personal identity on the Internet.
