VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT, BANKDIRECT, TELECOM MULTIPLE WINNERS AT TUANZ AWARDS
Asnet Technologies' Video Conferencing network project took out two top awards at last night's glittering TUANZ annual presentation. The company won both the Education Award and the Project of the Year Award with BankDirect winning the awards for Innovator of the Year, and telecommunications enabled financial services.
Telecom featured in three Awards taking the Internet Service Provider of the year through Xtra, the Healthcare Award through the Health Intranet, and tying for Carrier of the Year with Vodafone.
Telstra Saturn's submarine cable along the New Zealand coast was named Innovation of the Year.
Asnet Technologies' spanning of 23 schools from Kaitaia to Invercargill in a WWWAN (a wide wide area network) by which expert teachers of Maori can 'visit' all of them in real time was held by the judges to be "absolutely marvellous", and an exceptional use for this catalyst technology.
For the second year running Auckland City was judged the best Call Centre of the Year despite a very tight tussle with runner up North Shore City's Actionline. The judges noted that call centres are subjected to intense measurements across a huge range of performance indicators to monitor quality and caller satisfaction. The metrics provided can virtually determine the prize winner.
Other big successes were Owldocuments, a Web-enabled template system for constructing legal documents, EMS Global's ECIS high level security system, Telecom's Advanced Solutions for its Health Intranet operating through the country's hospital boards, Media Design School for its eCommerce course, Paul Brislen of Computer World who was judged Telecommunications Journalist of the Year, and Andrew Gulliver of HortResearch selected as the LAN or WAN Manager of the Year.
TUANZ Chief Executive Ernie Newman said the awards again demonstrated the depth of innovation under development amongst New Zealand businesses.
"All the finalists showed extraordinary invention, and all were highly impressive," he said.
"The quality of entries keeps getting better and better. The judges had over 100 entries to contend with. Our thanks go particularly to our specialist judges - we called in experts for each category requiring some element of technical knowledge."
