Don't Be Fooled By Genetically Engineered Food
This is the message behind the 2 commercials now appearing 3 to 4 times a day on TV3. The commercials point out that
genetically engineered food cannot be guaranteed safe as no independent long term clinical testing has been done
anywhere in the world.
The ads also celebrate New Zealand cities, companies and people who are working towards a more sustainable future.
Produced by a dedicated GE Free activist, Ms Mecham states, "People need to know what they are eating and to have an
informed choice.
We need to know that we have become the guinea pigs.
Never before have the genes of bacteria, viruses and animals been deliberately incorporated into our food crops.
There are concerns that allergies and other health problems may result." Our economy and agriculture are also at risk:
USA and Canadian farm exports dropped by over 17% after the introduction of GE crops.
Many countries have either cut imports or now routinely label GE foods.
Events such as the wholesale contamination of US farmland and the food supply by Starlink maize shows even our clean
green image could be damaged irreparably by genetic pollution of the environment, which would be expensive if not
impossible to clean up! ! ! !
