Prestigious Science And Research Awards To Be Presented In Christchurch This Week
The overall winner of the prestigious Foundation for Research, Science and Technology Awards for 2001 will be announced in Christchurch this Friday, together with the South Island winners of the annual awards.
The FiRST Awards showcase the outstanding work being done by young researchers and scientists in New Zealand.
The North Island award recipients were announced in Auckland last Thursday. It is now the turn of the South Island, with their regional awards to be presented by Nobel prize co-winner and New Zealand-born scientist Professor Alan MacDiarmid on 29 June.
In addition Professor MacDiarmid will announce the overall New Zealand winner, to be selected from the winners of the North and South Island regional titles.
The Christchurch awards function will be held at Rydges Hotel next Friday (29 June) from 5.15 until 6.30.
Prior to the ceremony, scientists, researchers and technologists from around New Zealand will gather for an afternoon workshop to look at the importance of research and development in business and practical ways to strengthen ties between the sectors.
