New Canta7 hearing instruments from GN ReSound introduce advanced 3D Digital technology to provide fuller, wider,

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, May 2001 – Engineers at hearing instrument producer GN ReSound have made a breakthrough advance in
assisting people with hearing difficulties. For the first time ever, the company’s new Canta7 family of hearing
instruments are applying advanced 3D Digital technology to a wide range of typical hearing problems.
3D Digital technology recognises that our world of sound is multi-dimensional. In the home, at restaurants, on the
street or in nature, sounds come from different directions, each at different pitches and levels of loudness. Some
sounds such as conversations are desirable, other such as the noise of a passing truck or an air conditioning fan are
not. This complexity, made more difficult by rapidly changing listening situations, has previously presented significant
challenges for manufacturers of hearing instruments and the wearers of even the best of previous digital devices. With
the arrival of 3D Digital technology, unwanted sounds are suppressed while desired sounds are made more clear to a level
previously unattained.
“That Canta7 is the first hearing instrument to use 3D Digital technology is due, in part, to the tiny microprocessor
chip inside each instrument, which provides enough computational power to outperform the features of any other hearing

that it constantly monitors its environment, adjusting even to the minute acoustic differences caused by a wearer’s new
hairstyle or favourite hat.”
The new hearing instruments also virtually removes the irritating problem of instrument feedback, the high-pitched
squealing that can occur when the wearer is, for example, giving a hug, putting on a hat or using a phone.
Available now, Canta7 comes in a full range of models to be worn behind or within the ear, in a variety of colorings.
