New Zealander’s find their Soapbox
31 March 2001
David Buckingham and Patrick Quinn-Graham last month launched Soapbox.co.nz, a new website set-up as a content exchange for the opinion columns of New Zealanders.
Soapbox.co.nz is a medium set-up so that anyone can publish their opinion on a professional website without having to go though the process of designing a website, publicising the address or even having to touch a line of code.
The completely free website has published columns written by Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum, including MPs from every political party in parliament other than New Zealand First.
Columnists include Tariana Turia, Wyatt Creech, Rodney Hide, Jim Anderton and Peter Dunne amongst others.
The site is a testament of how two people who have never meet, and live in different parts of the country (Buckingham in Christchurch and Quinn-Graham in Auckland) can develop and successfully implement ideas solely though the Internet and the occasional phone call while both working from home.
Furthermore Soapbox.co.nz was developed by sweat equity, from the backend database and the code that runs the website, through to the front end design and the content and user documentation was developed between the two teenagers.
