Compaq And Inktomi To Provide Appliances That Speed Web Content
AUCKLAND, March 28, 2001 - Compaq Computer Corp and internet infrastructure and search-engine company, Inktomi have signed a partnership to develop appliances that will speed delivery of content over the Internet.
Compaq TaskSmart C-Series content accelerator appliances will incorporate Inktomi Traffic Server network caching and media distribution software allowing users a faster internet connection thanks to a more intelligent, content-aware, appliance solution.
The collaboration between the two companies will see the applications prioritise content delivery, offering an improved flow of content across networks and a higher quality faster service.
"We already have strong interest in New Zealand for this type of specialist application." says Jeff Healey, Industry Standard Server Product Marketing Manager. "Our TaskSmart appliances offer internet service providers and users who are looking to stream rich media across the internet an improved and more efficient solution."
Compaq and Inktomi's new application will optimise the delivery of streamed media and other file types, which could include email and customer orders.
The Compaq TaskSmart C-Series with Inktomi software will be available in New Zealand during the second quarter of 2001.
