Christchurch Tech Product Launched At World’s Largest Wireless Event
Christchurch electronics startup company Telogis today launched its OnTrack Internet-based fleet management and tracking system at CTIA Wireless 2001 in Las Vegas, the largest wireless convention in the world.
The product uses Global Positioning System technology to track vehicles and display their position on an Internet screen at the fleet’s headquarters. It provides reliable up-to-the-minute information and reporting that can be used in both off-the-shelf and customised mobile technology.
OnTrack operates in conjunction with Telogis’ vCore communications modules and an optional expansion kit enables vehicles to access the Internet.
The release follows the recent pickup of Telogis systems by GPS Fleet Monitoring, one of California’s largest mobile solutions resellers.
The mobile computing industry is one of the fastest-growing technology segments in the world.
The Wireless Data and Computing Service, a division of Strategy Analytics, predicts that mobile commerce will be a $US200 billion industry by 2004.
CTIA is attended by more than 30,000 key figures in the international wireless, mobile computing and Internet industries.
Telogis manufactures its products in New Zealand, and ships them to its office in Los Angeles for final configuration and sale.
“New Zealand produces high quality, cost-effective products making the decision to manufacture for export here an easy one,” says co-founder Marcus Clyne.
“We see a market for systems that are easy to use and integrate into larger business systems and we are in discussions with customers looking for these features,” says co-founder Ralph Mason. “Our technology is just as easily applied to off-the-shelf solutions as to OEM products, which widens its appeal.”
The system is being targeted at the United States market initially, with a sales and technical support office based in Newport Beach, California supporting a growing network of independent franchised dealers.
Telogis was formed in 2000 as an independent off-shoot of South Pacific Electronic Design Associates Ltd, a successful Christchurch-based contract electronic research and development company.
