Special Edition Lumina Model Highlights Holden Commodore Success
Celebrating the success of its all-conquering Commodore - a perennial New Zealand favourite and the country¡¦s best selling car in 2000, Holden has now released a special edition model called the Lumina. Targeted at private buyers, the model - available as a sedan or wagon, offers upgraded levels of standard equipment and added style.
Based on the new and recently released VX Series Commodore Executive 3.8 litre 152 kW V6 automatic, the smartly styled and specified Lumina will have a recommended retail price of $44,900 for the sedan and $46,400 for the load-carrying wagon when it goes on sale this month.
Externally, the sedan is distinguished by a rear decklid spoiler with integrated stop lamp and big 16-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels, while the wagon features a versatile roof rack and 16-inch double 9-spoke alloy wheels. Both have 225/55 V-rated tyres, body-coloured side mouldings, a chrome exhaust extension and Lumina badging on the rear.
The Commodore Lumina¡¦s passenger compartment is finished in an exclusive soft-feel seat and door trim fabric - a geometric design in subtle grey tonings, that is complemented by a finely textured metallic finish on the instrument panel surround and console. The model also adds front passenger and side impact air bags and four power windows, and features a driver¡¦s airbag, anti-lock braking, independent rear suspension, air conditioning, electrically adjustable driver¡¦s seat, electric mirrors, central locking with deadlock facility, compact disc player and steering wheel mounted sound system controls.
There are five exterior paint colours to choose from - Genesis (dark navy blue mica), Quicksilver (silver metallic), Red Hot (brilliant solid red), Capricorn (dark green mica) and Heron (solid white).
Both the Lumina sedan and wagon are powered by Holden¡¦s proven 3.8 litre ECOTEC V6 engine - mated to a four-stage, electronically controlled automatic transmission - developing 152 kW of power at 5200 rpm and 305 Nm of torque at 3600 rpm.
According to Holden New Zealand¡¦s marketing manager Sheena Duffy, special edition Commodore models have built up an enviable record of sales success and interest in the nameplate. ¡§For private buyers, the very stylish Lumina package is bound to add to that tradition and boost the competitiveness and appeal of the marque,¡¨ she said.
Like all Holden passenger cars, light commercial and sport utility recreational vehicles, the Commodore Lumina is covered by a three-year 100,000 kilometres warranty - whichever occurs first. Normal service intervals are at every six months or 10,000 kilometres, while the model¡¦s braked towing capacity - with Holden approved equipment, is 2,100 kilograms.
The Lumina also comes with ¡¥Holden Advantage,¡¦ a motoring assurance package delivered through the collective resources of Holden Dealers and the New Zealand Automobile Association and which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Benefits, which apply to the vehicle rather than driver and are thus transferred on resale, are a breakdown and recovery service and where applicable, an overnight accommodation and/or alternative transport plan - all in accordance with the formal document that accompanies each vehicle. The service is accessed through the toll free number 0800 HOLDEN.

Editors¡¦ footnote:
„h From the Commodore Lumina¡¦s limited production run of 5000 units, is anticipated that 100 sedans and 40 wagons will be offered for sale in New Zealand.
„h Since its New Zealand launch late in 1979, Holden¡¦s Commodore/Calais carline has been placed in the top three best selling car models for every complete year except in 1993 and 1984 when it was placed fifth. Over 109,000 units - four, six and eight cylinders - have been sold, making it the second highest selling model in New Zealand (Toyota Corolla¡¦s is the highest).
„h Eleven different models have carried the Commodore/Calais nameplate since its Australian launch in 1978 (late 1979 in New Zealand). They are the VB Series (1978), VC (1980), VH (1981), VK (1984), VL (1986), VN (1988), VP (1991), VR (1993), VS (1995) and the VT in October 1997. The latter was updated to the VT Series II in June (August in New Zealand) 1999. The current VX Series was launched in Australia in September 2000 and went on sale in the New Zealand market in November 2000.
„h In VT Series guise, Commodore has the distinction of having been accorded the New Zealand Motoring Writers¡¦ Guild 1997 Car of the Year award - the only Australian produced car to have won that accolade.
