NZ COMPANIES DEVELOP EARTH-SAVING GAME

Today sees the launch of a free global multi-player Internet game - developed entirely in New Zealand.
EARTH 3073 is a new online game based on the retro classic "Battleships", that has been created by award-winning
Internet design company WebMedia and youth magazine publishers Pulp Publishing.
Located at www.pulpexperiment.net the game allows users of all ages to play up to three others by starting a new game or
joining an existing game to save the planet. One of the main attractions for players is seeing their names up in lights
on the ever-changing leader table, plus the opportunity to win prizes in the future by putting their skills to use.
WebMedia's Craig Roberts says "The game is an experiment into 3D entertainment space. Developed entirely using Flash 5,
we have used this opportunity to showcase the technology's online entertainment capabilities." The format of EARTH 3073
was finalised through a series of international trials including real-time games between players based in WebMedia's
Auckland, Hong Kong and Melbourne offices.
Tim Lawrence from Pulp Publishing says, "The Pulp Experiment - the website that features the game - is just that. An
experiment. It is a New Zealand youth culture website that re-launches five times a year as a whole new website, and
integrated into our magazines: Pulp, Pulpespy & Pulp Freetime. The game is our first experiment"
EARTH 3073 is the first of five versions of the www.pulpexperiment.net site that will be launched this year.
