ACNielsen eRatings.com To Take Pyramid To World
New Kiwi-developed Internet Measurement Tool Launches Today
ACNielsen eRatings.com To Take Pyramid To The World
Auckland - 13 December 2000 - ACNielsen eRatings.com today held the worldwide launch of a locally developed Internet measurement product, Pyramid, that gives a new way of readily seeing how web sites, both large and small, are performing relative to each other.
Applied to New Zealand, Pyramid will for the first time give ranking information on the 800 top sites visited by New Zealand surfers rather than, as previously, just the top 120.
"We identified a market thirst for information about smaller players and new entrants on the broader Internet landscape," said ACNielsen eRatings.com Managing Director Pacific, Brian Milnes.
"With Pyramid, we'll be grouping the top 800 sites visited by New Zealanders into bands based on their rankings. If you want to know which site is the most popular you go straight to the top 10. But more interestingly, if you want to rapidly compare one site with another you need only check the band they belong to, such as the top 200 or 400.
"Fast moving sites that are climbing quickly will now stand out with a special `climbers' ranking. Clients get good advance knowledge of who to watch out for as possible future stars."
Pyramid is complementary to ACNielsen eRatings.com's Nielsen//NetRatings product. Every month Nielsen//NetRatings collects at-home surfing activity of 3,200 New Zealand at-home panellists on a click-by-click basis covering over 25,000 domains. Nielsen//NetRatings provides rich analysis of the top 100 sites, including drillable demographic information and BannerTrack.
"Pyramid gives all clients valuable insights into their relative popularity, and let's them keep track of their competitors' movements month on month," Milnes said.
"It also offers smaller players an opportunity to report their eRatings ranking in the New Zealand market, something not previously available.
"New Zealand's small but keen population in Internet terms means that we have an ideal incubator to develop and test new products. We see global potential for Pyramid in other markets with smaller population bases.
"It's taken six months hard work to develop and test this product. That Pyramid was developed here by our Auckland-based Asia Pacific Statistical Team and is set for international rollout is a vote of confidence in the abilities of our analytics team to diagnose business issues and deliver remedies that can provide tremendous global scale value."
