gen-i Appoints IP Archaeologist

AUCKLAND, Wednesday December 13, 2000– gen-i limited has appointed Louise Brewer as its new Product Marketing Manager to investigate and capture all Intellectual Property (IP) relating to hardware, software and network management.
The recent appointment is a reflection of gen-i’s strategic focus to leverage the intangible assets created in the design and building of e-business systems and package them into tangible product solutions for the market.
Specifically, Louise will be responsible for maximising the return for the IP being designed, creating key expansion opportunities both locally and internationally, achieving high levels of success replication and enhancing gen-i’s position as Australasia’s leading and most innovative Internet integrator.
Louise will begin her ‘IP archaeological dig’ by working closely with a number of the company’s technical teams, key Account Managers and partners to identify significant areas for gen-i to safeguard. The search will review technology solutions from its Infrastructure, Ventures and Field Force divisions and also many of its traditional applications. Once relevant issues have been uncovered, her focus will be on conveying and securing the investment in related IP rights for gen-i.
“gen-i has a long tradition of innovative product and service development and my job is to seek out and protect the intangible assets and intellectual property that resides within the company,” Louise said.
“When customers buy a gen-i service, they are tapping into that bank of experience and the ability to perform the task. That is what we sell – a way of doing things that is different to anyone else. My role is to uncover and capture this value so we can package or ‘productise’ system solutions for the market,” she said.
gen-i Chief Executive, Garth Biggs said Louise would fill a role that all technology companies should aspire to create. “Technology is not about doing an excellent job for a client once, but about capturing the skills and knowledge used in one project and replicating that level of excellence for every client thereafter. Louise will form a key part of gen-i’s growth strategy and I wouldn’t be surprised to find other technology firms following our lead,” Mr Biggs said.
Prior to her new appointment, Louise worked for Whoosh Technology (provider of ASP based OSH Management Systems), subsidiary of leading NZ based developer of global medical laboratory information systems, Delphic Medical Systems. During this time Louise was an important part of the development team, responsible for launching the company into Australasia and also exploratory work into the highly competitive UK and US markets.
Louise has also led the Delphic Medical Systems Sales operations in North America. This role involved overseeing its sales and marketing activity, managing product launches, expanding the producer base and developing new distribution channels. She has also worked as Marketing Operations Manager for Trustbank (now WestpacTrust).
Louise will report to Peter Dickinson, gen-i’s General Manager Marketing and Strategy.
