“SEEING IS ENLIGHTENING” - PHILIPS LIGHTFRAME FOR BRIGHTER PICTURES
From pioneering CD to voice recognition technology, Philips delivers yet another breakthrough invention this month. This
time, it brings razor-sharp and brighter images to your computer, so that watching your favourite video and photos on
the Internet becomes even more enjoyable.
Leading TV maker Philips has invented a revolutionary monitor – the LightFrame™, that gives the brightness and clarity
of a TV set.
Distribution Channel Manager Philips PC Peripherals Francis File says that the LightFrame hardware-and-software package
boosts the brightness and sharpness of a monitor’s video signal in areas of the screen selected by the user.
“Initially, the image on the new Philips monitor looks like what you see on a CRT screen, but if you activate the
LightFrame software, you can move the mouse cursor like a powerful searchlight that ‘shines’ on any part of the image.
That illuminated part will appear bright and sharp,” he says.
“The contrast between the lighted area and the darker portion of the screen is startling. You can also illuminate the
entire screen, particularly when you wish to watch a video.”
Available only from Philips, the exclusive, patented LightFrame feature bridges the border between computer and
television applications. Although computer content increasingly contains photos and video, before LightFrame most
computer users turned to their TV for brighter and sharper-appearing display of movies and digital photos.
Until Philips tackled the problem, attempts to bring TV-quality display of video or photos to the monitor invariably led
to performance degradation in ‘traditional’ computer applications – like spreadsheet and word processing tasks.
LightFrame lets the consumers have the best of both worlds on one monitor.
Although the LightFrame process is technically sophisticated, Philips has kept the process largely user-friendly.
LightFrame technology is available on several flat and regular screen Philips monitors, and will be a standard feature
in most of its new 2000 and 2001 model range. The price of both the 17” and 19” monitor will not increase with the added
technology.
