The proposal by the British Government to allow cloning of human embryo cells to research medical cures is nothing more
than a sophisticated form of cannibalism.
Much is made of the legal protections that will be put into place to prevent embryo cloning.
The Society for the protection of the Unborn Child view such statements with scepticism.
A look at the history of abortion laws shows how hollow such reassurances are. As countries moved to liberalise abortion
laws reassurances were issued telling the public there would be safe guards put in place to prevent wanton destruction
of unborn children something we now have.
Any procedure that involves the deliberate killing of a human being however small, and at whatever age, in the interest
of experimentation is to be deplored.
It matters not whether such experimentation shows promise or not.
The fact that the proposals of the British Government are possible, is a strong argument against most of the so called
new artificial reproductive technologies. In the early days of these new technologies warnings were issued by some, that
the possibilities for experimentation such as cloning etc could one day be proposed.
For a country to accept the use of a defenceless human being for the benefits of another is for that country to take a
backward step in respect for human beings.
