The Rebel Caucus today voiced its disgust that the incoming government had reneged on their promise of a $20 per week
benefit increase, saying that it was tantamount to a cut in beneficiaries' incomes and could split the coalition.
The Rebel Caucus said that the government needed to allow businesses to create jobs, but that Labour and Alliance were
too busy discarding their campaign promises and trying to accomodate demands from the Greens to worry about New
Zealand's massive welfare problem.
"It is disgraceful that one of the key Alliance promises has been abandoned before the new government is even sworn in.
This shows that the Alliance party is prepared to give away even their most fundamental ideas to ride in the back seat
of a government limo" said Clint Heine, President of Prebble's Rebels and leader of the Rebel Caucus.
"Helen Clark has proven Jim Anderton to be one of this country's most high profile liars."
"It has taken less than two weeks for this government to betray their mandate and shatter the confidence of voters"
Clint Heine said.
"Broken promises like these put strain on the already fragile incoming government. New Zealand has no confidence in a
three-way coalition which breaks its promises before the special votes are counted."
Prebble's Rebels noted that the leader of McGillicuddy Serious tarred and feathered himself after being proven a liar,
and Clint Heine offered to personally assist Jim Anderton should he undertake a similar ritual.
