INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS RELEASES COMPARISON OF MAJOR PARTY TAX POLICIES
With just days before the election, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand has released a summary of the
two major parties’ tax policies.
Institute Tax Director Jeff Owens says the document takes a comparative look at National and Labour’s major business and
personal tax policies, and provides an overview of what people can expect.
“As well as contributing to the debate on tax issues, this document also provides an interesting insight into the future
tax policy, depending upon the make-up of the new Government,” says Mr Owens.
Mr Owens says tax has naturally been a topic of much debate in the build-up to the election, however nobody has taken an
overall look at both party’s policies and documented it in such an easy to understand, informative way.
The document is a result of the Institute’s National Tax Conference, held in Christchurch recently, and attended by more
than 240 people, including lawyers and Chartered Accountants specialising in tax.
Dr Michael Cullen was representing the Labour Party, and Associate Minister of Revenue Hon. David Carter discussed the
National Party’s taxation policy.
