Where Will You Put The Murderers Jim?

Published: Mon 11 Oct 1999 04:05 PM
The Alliance has promised to get rid of prisons if they become part of the next Government.
Matthew Parkinson, National’s East Coast candidate says Jim Anderton’s ramblings defy belief.
“The Gisborne Herald reports that in Gisborne on Saturday Jim Anderton said if the Alliance’s $200 million economic development bureaucracy was set up New Zealand wouldn’t need prisons. Anyone who comes up with a statement as stupid as that doesn’t deserve serious consideration as Deputy Prime Minister”.
Mr Parkinson said “Murderers should be locked up for the rest of their natural life, not left to roam around on a Government work scheme.”
