Jacobs thanks Fletcher for her endorsement
Labour candidate for Epsom David Jacobs today expressed his gratitude for the positive endorsement of his candidacy by retiring MP for Epsom Christine Fletcher.
In her valedictory speech to Parliament today Christine Fletcher described David Jacobs as “young, enthusiastic and a social liberal” and went on to say “I have worked with him on environmental issues over the years and I have found his enthusiasm to be infectious.”
Christine Fletcher concluded “The people of Mount Eden, Parnell, Epsom and Remuera will make the right choice I am sure.”
David Jacobs said “I am immensely encouraged by Chris Fletcher’s comments. It’s great to have the support of one of New Zealand’s most popular MPs.
“As far as I know it is unprecedented for a retiring National MP to praise their electorate’s Labour candidate in such a public way, broadcast live on radio to the nation.
“Chris and I share a commitment to the environment and to social justice. She knows that I’m a strong advocate for educational access, public transport and effective government for Auckland.
“It will be an honour to take over from her as MP for Epsom and a pleasure to work constructively with her in her role as Mayor of Auckland,” said David Jacobs.
