The tedious presence of four National Party Ministers into Manukau City isn't going to win the Government any extra support in this community. On the contrary, local residents are critical of National's plan to spin 'the facts' about 'the security and prosperity of New Zealand families'.
Local residents are peeved that the National Party is wheeling out four Ministers in a forlorn and insulting attempt to tell people that they are doing well under the National/Act regime. That's bumpkin and people in Manukau City know it," said Labour's Manurewa Electorate Campaign Manager Daniel Newman.
The four National Party 'brat-pack' Ministers are inviting residents to pose their questions. Some questions that need to be addressed include:
* Why have violent crimes in Counties Manukau increased 165% under National?
* Why are 93 out of every 100 recorded burglaries (over 10,000 in 1998) committed in Counties Manukau not solved under National?
* Why have the number of recorded cases of diseases of poverty (such as meningococcal disease and respiratory infections) in Counties Manukau increased under National?
* Why are rates of child immunisation rates in New Zealand falling below developing nations such as Morocco - under National?
"Manukau City residents understand that the National/Act regime means poverty, disease and increasing levels of violent crime in this region. The National Party has a cheek to try and score a few extra votes by coming into this community and telling local residents that they are doing well under this Government. The facts indicate that this is simply not the case," said Daniel Newman.
