Three Auckland candidates in Greens' top 7
Three well-known Aucklanders, Sue Bradford, Nandor Tanczos and Keith Locke have been placed in the top seven places on the Green Party list for this year's general election.
Sue at number four on the list is one of New Zealand's best-known advocates for the poor and unemployed. She was a founder and trustee of the Auckland Region Employment Resource Centre and from 1987 to 1990 the national co-ordinator of Te Roopu Rawakore o Aotearoa. She was vice-president of the NewLabour Party from 1989 to 1990.
Recently she has been announced as employment spokesperson for the Green Party.
Nandor Tanczos at list place five has developed a more recent profile as spokesperson for the Green Party's youth branch, the Wild Greens. He is a small business owner who has been involved in civil rights movements for the past decade, and has recently been a prominent opponent of genetically engineered food.
Keith, seventh on the list, is most well-known for his long campaign for human rights, not only in Maori land struggles but also international social justice issues. He was one of the organisers of the anti-Vietnam war mobilisations and for the past 10 years has been a spokesperson on international affairs and defence for NewLabour and the Alliance. He is now foreign affairs, defence and disarmament spokesperson for the Green Party.
