Plunket Sups With The Devil
Libertarianz Deputy Leader Richard McGrath is neither impressed nor surprised by Jenny Shipley's decision to subsidise Plunketline from the public trough.
"It's very easy to give warm fuzzies with other people's money," he says, noting that it is particularly common in election year. "If the National Party is so keen to help Plunketline its members should dig into their own pockets first, instead of plundering the pay-packets of working people."
McGrath praises Plunket for the wonderful work it has done fostering child health over many decades. However, he now questions their morality. "Essentially," he says," they are sanctioning the use of the state's force as a means of opening our wallets on their behalf. I am saddened that Plunket have made this pact with the devil, and I would ask them to remember that some taxpayers have been driven to suicide by the IRD's revenue-driven bullying."
Libertarianz believes taxpayers should be left free from this state-sponsored theft. Says McGrath: "They could then afford to pay for Plunket's services as they used them, or to donate voluntarily to Plunket or whosoever they might wish. And Plunket could avoid the walk-on part being scripted for them in National's election campaign."
