Butterfly 'Risk' is Pseudo-Science
"Once again we find Jeanette Fitzsimons quoting hysterical pseudo-science to push for restrictions on businesses and their scientific research," says the Libertarianz Spokesman for Environment Deregulation today.
"This time," says Peter Cresswell, "because one flawed experiment in a New York lab killed some Monarch butterflies, a Pukekohe grower conducting field trials finds themselves targeted by the luddites. This hugely flawed monarch butterfly experiment - unable to be replicated - has not been published in serious peer review literature, being found only in the scaremongering fringe journals Fitzsimons finds so attractive. Yet," warns Cresswell, " it could be used to kill this company's crop research."
Cresswell says that the only proven danger regarding these crops is that we can "expect them to be invaded by rampaging idiots out to destroy them!" He says we should expect to hear more "busybody, hysterical pseudo-science" from Fitzsimons before this debate is over, and to see "more pictures of eco-terrorists desperately trying to get arrested for their violent actions. But," he points out, "don't expect to hear much real science from them!"
